Matthew Rusling, DO is a board-certified psychiatrist with the American Board ofPsychiatry and Neurology. He completed residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He balances clinical expertise with academic scholarship, presenting at national conferences on pharmacogenomics and microbiome sciences, with 9 peer reviewed publications.

Dr. Rusling is a strong believer in integrating evidence-based lifestyle changes, talk therapy, medical evaluation (including pharmacogenomics), and medication management into treatment plans for his patients. When a patient has a trusted primary care provider, he offers collaborative care which can include coordination with a patient’s existing team. His areas of focus include ADHD, depression, PTSD, and insomnia among other common psychiatric conditions. Dr. Rusling utilizes pharmacogenomic analysis to individualize treatment plans, especially for patients who have struggled with side effects or finding effective medications. On a case-by-case basis, Dr. Rusling provides therapy in addition to medication management.

As an endurance mountain bike racer and mountain sport athlete, Dr. Rusling is passionate about sports psychiatry: Using exercise as medicine and meeting the unique mental health challenges faced by athletes of all levels. As a prior military psychiatrist, he has experience considering how medications impact physical performance, weight, and overall well-being. He also performs NCAA athletic evaluations and provides supporting documentation when appropriate.
 

Dr. Rusling’s practice is best suited for patients who can be managed in the outpatient setting. He does not treat primary psychotic disorders or patients who require frequent hospital-based care.
