LouCouPsych is proud to announce their sponsorship of NAMI Northern Virginia’s annual walk and fundraiser!
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a grassroots nonprofit organization that provides education and support for mental health issues to communities across the country. Largely run by volunteers, NAMI offers the important perspective of those with lived experience in the mental health community - including peer support, family member support, and advocacy in the community. Their mission is “to work together to raise awareness and provide education, advocacy, and support programs for people living with mental illness, families, students, law enforcement, and the public throughout our neighborhoods.”
NAMI’s programming is well researched and free to the public. Programs include educational groups for those living with mental health conditions and their loved ones. NAMI Peer to Peer provides education on mental health from teachers with first-hand experience. The Family to Family program provides similar information to caregivers and loved ones. Additionally, NAMI offers peer-led support groups that are also free to the public.
In addition to education and support, NAMI is proud to partner with community organizations such as the police and the school system to help better serve those who need to be better understood. There are various presentations and trainings that aim to inform helping professionals how to best handle the mental health situations that they may encounter on the job.
NAMI Northern Virginia also has a vibrant young adult community that gathers for social events throughout the year, including NAMI Fall Fest that is scheduled for this upcoming October. NAMI has focused on reaching out to the young adult community, as this is often when onset of symptoms occurs.
NAMI Northern Virginia is full of wonderful programs and serves the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun and the Cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, and Fairfax.
LouCouPsych is proud to support their efforts this year at their 10th annual walk on Saturday, September 22nd at 9am at Tyson’s Corner Plaza. This festive fundraiser is full of opportunities to learn about your community’s resources. Please come by and see us at our sponsor table and learn more about how we can help you!
